[en] J. Steiner proposed the problem of counting the number of tangent conics to five given conics. His answer, 7776, was wrong because he assumed that the number is finite when, in fact, the whole component of double lines appears on the solution. In later works of De Jonquieres and Chasles it was found is the correct number of solutions once discounted the double lines. The number found is 3264.
