| dc.description | [ca]En els darrers anys han sorgit dos nous virus dins de la família Coronaviridae. Els estudis realitzats indiquen que el seu origen és a conseqüència de recombinacions genètiques. Aquest fet ha comportat que s’atribueixi una major importància clínica als coronavirus: tot i que se’ls considerava virus que només causaven patologies respiratòries limitades, el sorgiment del SARS-CoV en 2002 i el MERS-CoV en 2012 ha canviat la perspectiva de la família ja que les pneumònies que han provocat (SARS i MERS) tenen unes xifres de mortalitats del 10% i 30%, les quals són elevades en comparació amb la resta dels virus de la família. Estudis filogenètics han demostrat que aquests nous virus comparteixen un origen comú zoonòtic: els ratpenats. Encara que són animals que no contacten freqüentment amb l’home, gràcies a la presència de hostes intermediaris (civeta i dromedari) s’han pogut desencadenar brots i epidèmies d’ambdós, sobretot en l’Orient ja que els dos van sorgir en Àsia. Per sort, a mitjans de 2004 es van deixar de reportar casos de SARS-CoV i l’OMS va declarat finalitzat el cas. No obstant això, en l’actualitat es continuen notificant casos de MERS-CoV en la zona de la península aràbiga. Malauradament, cap dels dos virus disposa de tractament específic i només s’apliquen tècniques de suport i pal·liatives. Com que encara hi ha casos de MERS, es requereix de més investigació i recerca experimental per obtenir fàrmacs efectius. | |
| dc.description | [en]In the recent years, two new viruses have emerged inside the family Coronaviridae as a result of genetic recombination. This event has attributed a greater clinical importance to the coronaviruses because they were depicted as viruses that only caused limited respiratory diseases, but the emergence of SARS-CoV in 2002 and MERS-CoV in 2012 has changed the perspective; the pneumonia that they brought (SARS and MERS) have a mortality ratio of 10% and 30%, ratios that are higher than the other viruses of the same family. Phylogenetic studies have shown that these new zoonotic viruses share a common origin: the bats. Although these animals doesn’t contact frequently with the man, the presence of intermediate hosts (civet and camel) have make possible the outbreaks and epidemics of both viruses, especially in the east of the world because they emerged in Asia. Fortunately, in mid-2004, the reported cases of SARS-CoV stopped and the WHO declared the case ended. However, nowadays they are still notifying cases of MERS-CoV in the area of the Arabian Peninsula. Unfortunately, none of the viruses have specific treatment and the only ways to fight them are supportive treatment and palliative care. As there are still cases of MERS, further studies and experimental research are needed to find effective drugs. | |
