Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2014-2015, Tutor: Alicia Vela[cat] Dins la meva pràctica, sempre hi han hagut un seguit de conceptes fixes que, més que canviar, s’han anat perfilant més clarament amb el pas del temps. Dins el seu nucli hi trobem un interès per la formalitat i les eines de reproducció, d’entendre i reproduir les estratègies comunicatives de diversos sistemes per tal de generar sentit. Ho podem considerar un interès en com es construeix discurs i com aquest s’integra i afecta el nostre espai social i cultural. També exploro la necessitat d’anar més enllà de la mera reproducció i ser capaç de produir una forma de narrativa pròpia; narrativa que genero des de la manipulació i re-contextualització d’altres formats. Per aquest motiu m’interessa l’apropiació com a procés, en especial si prenem com a base les idees de saquejar i profanar, ja que ens permeten posicionar-nos de forma directe contra les formes pròpies dels sistemes institucionals i aparells de control. El saqueig s’entén com a producció generada mitjançant fragments de la cultura popular. Treballant dins les fissures en la narrativa clàssica, dins les quals es pot exercir poder; actuant així sobre aquells elements i imatges abandonats o ambigus. L’apropiació i la manipulació són aquí actes violents, dirigits a atacar de forma directe les imposicions de l’establishment. S’argumenta així el conflicte entre les formes de crear narrativa imposada impostada vs. les formes de narrativa alternatives. La formalització d’aquests conceptes es basa en certa manera en la paradoxa: busco construir narratives contràries a les imposades però m’apropio de les seves estructures, es vol convidar a la reflexió, però s’utilitza un llenguatge hiperbòlic i extrem en les seves representacions que sembla poc donat al diàleg. La idea del joc hi és sempre present, actuant com un acte de funambulisme entre el fons i la forma, en ocasions difuminant la línia entre la significació de les dues. Aquesta tensió resulta en una fascinació amb elements que no encaixen en gèneres concrets, en allò estrany que habita els racons més allunyats dels nostres voltants culturals. La ciència ficció, l’horror còsmic, els videojocs, tot allò que anomenem pulp es manté en un limbo conceptual. Es presentem com a obres funcionals a dos nivells diferents, comercial i artístic, i que a la vegada no acaben d’encaixar en cap. D’aquestes col·lisions sorgeix la meva pràctica, i dins d’aquest TFG em proposo continuar aquesta línia exploratòria, indagant sobre els tipus de sistemes creadors de sentit i les formes de produir-ne més enllà dels aparells dominants culturals, sempre amb l’objectiu d’oferir un discurs alternatiu, crític i en certa manera, absurd.[eng] Deep within my practice there’s always been a series of key concepts that, more than changing, have been narrowing down with time. At its core we can find an interest in formalism and reproduction methods, in how we can understand and reproduce different strategies from diverse Systems in order to create meaning. We can consider it an interest in how discourse is made and how it merges and affects our cultural and social vicinities. It also explores the necessities of going beyond mere reproduction in order to be able to create our own narrative, which I generate from manipulation and re-contextualization of other formats. That’s why I’m interested in appropriation as a process, specially taking in consideration the concepts of profaning and pillaging; since they allow me to position directly against the institutional systems and control apparatus. Pillaging is understood as a production from pieces-or shards- of pop culture. Working within the cracks of classical narrative, within which one can exercise power, acting over those elements and images abandoned or discarded in our spaces. Appropriation and manipulation are here violent acts destined to confront the establishment’s impositions. Thus the conflict between imposed narratives vs. alternative narratives is expressed. This kind of action is in a way based around a paradox: I search for the construction of narratives opposed to the controlling systems but at the same time I draw from said structures, there is an invitation to reflexion but an hyperbolic and extreme language is used in the pieces, which appears as not very open to dialogue. The idea of a trick is also always present, working as a balancing act between form and theme and sometimes blurring the line between both. This tension of concepts results in a fascination with that that inhabits the farthest corners of our cultural surroundings. Science fiction, cosmic horror, videogames… basically what we refer as pulp lives in a conceptual limbo of sorts. These are pieces working in two different fields, both as commercial and artistic elements, but that don’t truly belong in neither of them. From these mixed spaces and collision spaces sprawls my practice, and within this TFG I’m determined to continue this exploratory line investigating the systems that create meaning and how can we disrupt and adapt such systems with the objective of creating an alternative, critical and somewhat absurd discourse.
